DISTRICT STILL SEEKING NOMINATIONS FOR AWARD OF MERIT

General Messages

Roundtable Bad Whether Policy

This is the season for snow and ice that could make travel conditions hazardous.  The policy for canceling Cecil District Roundtable meetings is as follows:
  • There is NO CONNECTION between school closings and canceling Roundtable.
  • If Roundtable is canceled we will get the word by sending you an e-mail message.   If you are not on our District e-mail list please send a message to Gordon Tozer at gftozer@comcast.net and he will gladly add you to our list.

District Award of Merit and Silver Beaver Award

The District is still accepting nominations for Scouters deserving the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver Award.  For more information, contact Mike Tetrault or see: www.delmarvacouncil.org/past-news-items/district-award-of-merit-and-silver-beaver/24685

Scout Leader Training

Why are we always talking about TRAINING?

  1. Because every Scout deserves a trained leader.
  2. Because it is required that youth-facing leaders are trained in the position they are serving as well as in Youth Protection.

Units are encouraged to have a Training Coordinator that track the training status of your adult leaders.  More information on training can be obtained at: www.delmarvacouncil.org/openrosters/view_homepage.aspx?orgkey=1568

Boy Scout News

In the past Cecil County has honored new First Class Scouts at a County Commissioner’s meeting.  We are returning to this program in 2013.  Troop leaders will be contacted in January of 2014 with a list of those Scouts on record as having received their First Class badge in 2013.   The Scouts and their leaders will be invited to Cecil County Council meeting in the Spring to be recognized and receive their certificates.

The National High Adventure Base at Summit Bechtel Reserve is open for business.  Summit programs are ideal for older Scouts looking for a new challenge.  If your Troop doesn’t have enough Scouts for a crew, we could try to put one together from Cecil.  Action areas at Summit include the Marksman, Wheels, the River, Helmets and Harnesses or an overall program called the Summit Experience.  For more information, see: www.summitblog.org/programs/about/about-the-summit/.  Delmarva’s “Summit Ambassador” is Gary Lehr: truelehr@verizon.net.

The Nentego OA Lodge Banquet is February 8, 2014 at 5:15 PM at Wyoming United Methodist Church.

Lowe’s has grant money available for Eagle Scout projects involving building materials.  For more information, contact Ronald Smith at smithrv@comcast.net.
